American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is best known for Blood Drives and disaster relief. However, they also provide specialized services to the military community through the American Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES).You can find your nearest Red Cross chapter in your local telephone directory.

United Service Organization (USO)

“The USO’s mission is to provide morale, welfare and recreation-type services to our men and women in uniform. The original intent of Congress – and enduring style of USO delivery- is to represent the American people by extending a touch of home to the military.” For families dealing with a soldier casualty, the USO offers childcare services and emergency funding that could cover travel, food and lodging expenses. The USO also offers support groups for families separated by deployments and family crisis counseling.

American Legion

The American Legion’s Family Support Network stands ready to assist you and your family as you serve our country. What kind of help is available? Grocery shopping, childcare, lawn care, fixing the family car and countless other challenges to a military spouse. Call toll-free: 1-800-504-4098 or e-mail familysupport@legion.org. Local American Legion volunteers will contact your family to determine if and how assistance can be provided.

Operation Home Front

Provides assistance with day-to-day issues for military families so that deployed service members are not preoccupied by the crisis at home and can focus on the War Against Terrorism. Operation Homefront provides assistance to families of deployed service members in the following areas: Crucial car repair assistance, Home & appliance repair, Refurbished internet computers, Moving & Transportation assistance, Furniture, Food Distribution, Children items.
